A Good Feed

RSS saves time. When you haven't got the time to visit your favorite website, news or information you want can come directly to your computer at intervals you want. You can quickly scan small amounts of data found in the RSS feeds as they contain only links, headlines or brief synopses of new information.
One of the sites I selected is Cool Tools. Cool tools really work. A cool tool can be any book, gadget, software, video, map, hardware, material, or website that is tried and true. Technology is always changing cool tools can help keep you up to date and show what really cool new tools are out there.
Many news sources have RSS feeds. A particularly useful site is moreover.com which maintain a large list of news feeds.
There are many libraries that feed us. They let us know what new items have just arrived. There are feeds for new materials, website updates, links of interest and library events. Databases and indexes online and calendar feeds.

Whats Up

I have started my facebook page. After such a short period of time its amazing to discover so many you know who's into this social networking craze. This medium makes connecting with other people faster, easier and more accessible to a wider population than ever before. Starting this page has now allowed me to reconnect with family and friends whom I haven't heard from in ages.
Social networks are like online communities that provide a place for people to connect. Social networking has always existed but now with new technology tools its now possible for communities to expand from local to global.

Libraries & Social Networking

There are so many social networking tools out there how does a library know which one to choose and how long before it goes. Things change so quickly, everthing costs. Social networking within libraries can result in better service and communication with their users. Librarians need to collaborate to explore these tools and share knowledge about what works.
IT gives users new ways to be involved and participate in the library.
Social networking is an opportunity for libraries to bring together their patrons so they can have a say in what they would like in regards to improvements, exhibitions etc. Libraries need to evaluate and try new tools as more people participate in virtual worlds and other social networking tools. Libraries need to be where their users are and reinvent some of what they do to meet the information needs people have.

WhyWiki

After watching Commmon Craft's Wikis in Plain English video I thought what an unusual way to plan a camping trip. All involved I thought must be complete computer junkies. Lets hope that the leave their laptops behind when they go camping and enjoy the great out doors. After all that collaborative effort I hope no one forgot the poles and pegs.

Wikis and Librarys

As a wiki is a collaborative tool for managing knowledge among a group of people it would be a great tool to us as a means of support for your organization. By using a closed authorized only group your wiki can be freely added to or edited by that group alone. This collaborative space could be a great way to cross link knowledge. Providing that there is a high level of trust within that group. Sharing knowledge among a group means sharing your experience and expertise in helping your group reach its goals and missions. Therefore your group can improve productivity and promote knowledge sharing. Knowledge and experience can be captured and shared. We need to create an environment of continuous learning. In the library we could contribute information and tips on library resources for others to keep content current. You could work on a document, policy or project by knowledge sharing. Maybe try using your blog in conjunction with your wiki so as to keep track of changes.
