Crusing into Flickrsville

Our people were denied the houour, recognition and respect accorded to other servicemen and servicewomen. So Australias first coloured Diggers march was orginised in Redfern in 2007 where they proudly marched in their first Anzac parade.
Seeing pictures like these on flickr is another step towards reconcillation.
Aboriginal Diggers upon their return to Australia did not receive recognition but instead received ignorance and racism and were not eligible to receive the same benefits as their white counterparts.
My Grandfather died as a pow in WW2 after all this time in February this year a small Aboriginal community - Toomelah unveiled an Aboriginal Roll of Hounour plaque with his name on it. This war memorial was erected by the community's own initiative - the first of its kind in Australia. Respect for our Aboriginal Diggers is starting to evolve. How proud my Grandmother would have been to see this recognition in her lifetime.
